Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about setting up and using the Shoonya Trader terminal.
General & Security
What is Shoonya Trader with Algo?
It is a professional-grade, desktop-based trading terminal designed specifically for the Shoonya (Finvasia) API. It bridges the gap between manual trading and automated strategies, offering tools for scalping, option chain analysis, and algorithmic execution without requiring any coding knowledge.
Is my data and password safe?
Absolutely. Security is our top priority. This is a local desktop application (EXE) that runs entirely on your own computer. We do not have any cloud servers, and we never transmit your credentials elsewhere. Your User ID, Password, and API keys are encrypted and stored locally on your machine.
Do I need to install Python or other libraries?
No. The application is compiled as a standalone executable. The installer handles everything. You just need a Windows PC with an internet connection.
Installation & Activation
I see a 'Windows protected your PC' warning during installation.
This is a standard Windows SmartScreen warning for new software that isn't digitally signed by a large corporation. To proceed, simply click 'More Info' and then the 'Run Anyway' button. This is completely safe.
How do I activate my license?
After purchasing, send your payment proof and your Shoonya User ID to our official WhatsApp number. We will activate your license on our backend. This process usually takes 15-30 minutes during working hours.
Can I use the software on multiple computers?
The license is linked to your specific Shoonya User ID (e.g., FN12345). You can install the software on multiple computers (like a home PC and a work laptop), but you can only be logged in and trading on one instance at a time with that User ID.
Trading & Features
Does it support automated trading strategies?
Yes. The application comes with built-in, configurable strategies like VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price) and SuperTrend 1DTE. You can set your own parameters (Timeframe, Target, Stop Loss) and let the bot execute trades automatically.
What is the 'Scalp Panel'?
The Scalp Panel is a specialized tool for manual traders who need speed. It allows you to place orders with a single click while automatically attaching Stop Loss and Target orders. It also features 'Market Protection' to convert market orders into limit orders to avoid slippage.
What are Basket Orders and Straddle/Strangle Tools?
These are advanced execution tools. 'Basket Orders' allow you to fire multiple orders simultaneously (useful for hedging). The 'Straddle/Strangle Tool' automates the creation of non-directional strategies by automatically selecting strikes based on your settings.
Can I backtest my strategies?
Yes. The application includes a 'Historical Data Fetcher' to download past market data and a 'Backtester' module to simulate your strategies against that data to verify their performance before risking real capital.
API & Credentials
Where do I get my API Key and Vendor Code?
You can obtain your API Key, Vendor Code, and IMEI from the Shoonya Prism portal (https://prism.shoonya.com/api). After logging in, click your profile name at the top right and select 'API Key'.
How do I set up TOTP for auto-login?
Login to the Shoonya trading site (trade.shoonya.com) or the beta site. Go to Profile > Security > TOTP. Copy the alphanumeric 'Secret Key' (not the 6-digit dynamic code). Paste this into the app's Creds menu to enable automatic 2FA generation.
Can I skip the automated TOTP setup?
Yes. If you don't provide the TOTP secret key, the application will simply prompt you to manually enter the 6-digit code from your mobile authenticator app during every login.
Should I edit the credentials.json file manually?
No. It is highly recommended to use the app's 'User > Creds' menu. The application automatically encrypts your sensitive data when saving via the UI. Manual editing will bypass this encryption and may cause login failures. Remember to restart the app after saving new credentials.
Historical Data
Is historical data included for free?
Yes, once you purchase the app, you can manually fetch and download 1-minute historical data for your selected strikes at no extra cost. This data is available for Nifty and Bank Nifty from expiry date 20-01-2026 onwards.
How do I get data for older expired contracts?
If you need datasets for periods that expired before you started using the app, we offer pre-archived historical data bundles for purchase at ₹500 per month of data.
What is the 'Yearly Elite' data bonus?
Users who subscribe to our Yearly Elite plan get the last 1 month of archived historical data completely FREE upon activation.
Troubleshooting
I am getting an SSL / Connection Error.
This is often due to outdated root certificates on Windows. To fix this, open PowerShell as Administrator and run the following commands. These commands will update your system's root certificates directly from Microsoft's servers.
certutil -generateSSTFromWU roots.sst certutil -addstore -f root roots.sst del roots.sst
The data/charts are not updating.
Check your internet connection first. If the issue persists, go to the 'Status' menu and click 'Refresh'. Ensure that the 'Enable WS' (WebSocket) checkbox is ticked in the Settings menu. You can also check the 'Logs' tab for specific error messages.
Where can I find the log files?
Logs are crucial for debugging. They are located in the 'logs' folder inside your installation directory (default: C:\Shoonya Trader with Algo by Bibhuti\logs).
